A Great Evening of German Food and Magic!

Our dear friend Kate Coleman, Shelly and I spent a great evening dining and being entertained in Hagerstown, MD. Shelly scored 3 free tickets to the Champions of Magic show at the Maryland Theater through Vettix. Vettix is a website that offers donated entertainment tickets to veterans.

We started the evening with dinner at Schmankerl Stube, one of our favorite German restaurants. We ordered drinks and enjoyed the Spaten Märzen Oktoberfest beer and a coke. We stared with an appetizer of the Wurst Sampler, an array of sausages served with mustards and curry sauce. For our entrees, I ordered veal Wiener Schnitzel, a lightly breaded veal filet pan-fried, served with Rahmsauce on the side and spätzle. Shelly and Kate shared the Combo Platter for Two, which included beef filet medallions, schnitzel, Nürnberger Grillbratwurst, spätzle, potato salad, sauerkraut, apple-flavored red cabbage and green beans wrapped in bacon. We finished by sharing a serving of apple strudel. All the food was delicious, and the service was excellent.

The Maryland Theater was just a short walk from the restaurant. We picked up our tickets from Will Call, and found our seats in the balcony. The Champions Of Magic cast present incredible interactive magic, a daring escape from Houdini’s water torture cell, a mind-blowing prediction that has to be seen to be believed, levitation high above the stage and a finale beyond explanation. The show happens all around the theatre and features spectacular illusions that can’t be seen anywhere else. The show was entertaining, humorous, and fast-paced, and the 5 performing illusionists are world class.

It was a wonderful evening, and we look forward to another evening out.
