Lani and Pat Morrissey (best friend of mine since 5th grade), and Shelly and I saw the New York Yankees play the Baltimore Orioles in beautiful Camden Yards in Baltimore, MD. We arrived at our hotel late afternoon to the Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards. We found a mass of Yankee fans in the lobby and bar area, waiting to check in and attend the 7:05 pm game. It was great to see so many fans from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania all there to cheer on the Yankees.
We changed into our Yankee garb and met Scott Meier (best fried of mine since 7th grade) at La Tavola Italian Restaurant in little Italy. Lani researched and recommended this restaurant and it was fabulous. It's an authentic Venetian style Italian restaurant featuring local produce as well as being one of the only restaurants in little Italy that can say that 100% of our pasta is home-made fresh in house. We were well-greeted, the server was attentive, the food delicious, and the conversation priceless. Pat, Scott, and I made references to childhood memories, talked about of children and grandchildren, and generally had a wonderful time.
We got to the game at the end of the 1st inning. The Yankees took an early lead despite their pitcher, Masahiro Tanaka, getting hit hard. The Yanks came through with 5 runs in the 5th and 6th inning, only to have the O's score 5 in their half of the 6th. I knew the Yankees were good for two to three more runs and they didn't disappoint. In the 8th inning, rookie Mike Ford homered to make it 7 -6, then Mike Tauchman hit his second two-run homer of the game to make it 9 - 6. Aroldis Chapman closed the door on the O's in the 9th to secure the Yankee win. It was an exciting game and we walked back to our hotel happy.
It such a blessing to have such wonderful friends as Pat, Lani, and Scott. And of course my wife Shelly. They made the trip very special.
Here's the recap of the game.
Go Yankees!!!
