Shelly saw a great deal on Goldtar.com and got complimentary tickets for the Cirque du Soleil performance of Volta in Tysons Corner, VA. It's near the end of the show's run, so the organizers wanted seats filled and offered complimentary tickets. We've seen Cirque du Soleil's Mystere, O, and The Beatles Love in Las Vegas, and Dralion in Tysons Corner. So we were excited to see Volta.
We started the evening with relaxing dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant in the Tysons II Mall. We felt full after our appetizers and did not order any entrees. I finished up with a delicious tiramisu
The show started at 7:30 PM. We had third row seats, close enough to see the perspiration on the performers. I didn't really understand the story, but here goes. A boy is born with head of blue, feather-like hair. He is bullied and ridiculed, and grows up shy and distrustful. But he eventually meets amazing and talented people who show him that being a little different is pretty cool. In his life journey he meets acrobats, strong-men and women, bike dancers, tumblers, gymnasts, singers, violinists, and others who are unique in their own way. He learns that his uniqueness makes him a special person. That's my take on the story-line.
The performers are outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed the show. Here's some pictures I took, along with some I borrowed from the July 27, 2019 DC Metro Theater Arts review.
Here's a video from Youtube with the highlights of the show.
