It's been 7 weeks and the end is not yet in sight. Maryland, DC, and Virginia have not yet begun to flatten. We may have another 3 or 4 weeks before businesses start a partial reopening. There have been more protests in Maryland to open up, and someone has filed a lawsuit to declare the shutdown illegal. We'll avoid places where people are not masked up. So I hope people comply with proper practices.
Saturday night I watched the movie The Negotiator starring Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. In a desperate attempt to prove his innocence, a skilled police negotiator (Jackson) accused of corruption and murder takes hostages in a government office to gain the time he needs to find the truth. Spacey plays a negotiator who tries to end the situation. It's a decent movie with a lot of action, and gets 7 out of 10 stars.
I also watched the movie Kelly's Heroes starring Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland, Don Rickles and other stars. Kelly (Eastwood) pulls together a company of G.I. misfits to push through German lines following the D-Day invasion to steal $16 million in gold from a bank. There's a lot of great action and humor in this classic, and it's one of my favorite films. "Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves." 8.5 out of 10 stars.
Sunday I watched the comedy Meet the Parents starring Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. Male nurse Greg Focker (Stiller) meets his girlfriend's parents before proposing, but her suspicious father (De Niro), a former CIA operative, is his worst nightmare. It's a hilarious movie and gets 8.5 out of 10 stars.
Here's a throwback photo of Shelly and me in Iceland in 2013 on a black sand beach.
And in closing, Shelly and I saw the show Kinky Boots on Broadway in 2014. It was a great show with Billy Porter. Here's "Everybody Say Yeah."
