Shelly and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary with a lunch at Martin's Tavern in Georgetown, Washington, DC, then then spent 70 minutes at Crumbs & Whiskers Cat Cafe.
Martin's Tavern was established in 1933 and has a rich history and famous diners. John F. Kennedy was a regular and legend has it he proposed to Jacqueline Bouvier at their favorite table.
Shelly ordered the the meatloaf with mushrooms and gravy, and mash potatoes and vegetable. She loved it.
I ordered the Tavern Treat, a split English muffin, toasted, loaded with sautéed jumbo lump crab meat and sliced fresh mushrooms topped with house-made hollandaise sauce served with seasonal vegetables. It was delicious.
After lunch, we headed to Crumbs & Whiskers Cat Cafe. It is a cat and kitten rescue in a Georgetown townhouse. There were about 30 cats there, roaming around the first and second floor. We sat on cushions and let the cats climb all over us. We pet and played with them, and generally gave them as much cuddles as we could. It is great therapy! There were several we could have taken home, but it would not work out well at home with our two cats Lennon and McCartney. But we had a wonderful time, and the staff was very excited, friendly, and informative. Here's some pictures and videos.
We had a fabulous day and look forward to our 29th next year!
