Two New York Yankees - Baltimore Orioles Games with School Friends

Shelly and Ken and dear friends Pat and Lani Morrissey, Brian and Sue Smacher, and Mark Dunn and Stacey Escalante took in two New York Yankees - Baltimore Orioles games this past weekend in Baltimore. Pat, Brian, and Mark are elementary school friends of Ken's. We've been getting together for Yankees games when they're in Baltimore for the past 3 to 4 years, and this get-together promised to be special as we met Mark's fiancé Stacey.

We arrived in Baltimore Friday afternoon and checked into the Baltimore Marriott Inner Harbor at Camden Yards. As usual, there were a lot of Yankees fans checking in at the same time. We like the Marriott because it is only two blocks from the ballpark. The rooms are large, comfortable, and clean, the service is friendly, and the rates are reasonable for the location.

The 8 of us met at Dalesio's of Little Italy for dinner and were joined by friends Scott and Maria Meier. Scott is an elementary school friend of Ken's as well. The 10 of us had a wonderful dinner. Shelly and Ken had the Veal Bolognese, Italian Wedding Soup, and garlic bread. It was all delicious, and the service was exceptional.

We then made our way to the game and enjoyed chatting through a 2 1/2 hour rain/lightning delay. There was a cool breeze while it was raining, but the 98 degree temperature and humidity came back when the game started. The game was a pitcher's duel, 0-0 into the 9th inning. It ended with a Baltimore walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 9th inning. Although the Yankees lost, it was an exciting ending and we had a great time.

The next day, Brian and Sue, Pat and Lani, and Ken and Shelly met for lunch at the Rusty Scupper located on the waters of the Inner Harbor. The Rusty Scupper has wonderful views of Baltimore and good food, but it's priced with the location and views in mind. Shelly had Crab Fettucine and Ken had a crabcake. Both meals were very good, and the service was excellent.

That evening, we met up at the game. The temperature had dropped a bit and there was a fairly consistent, cool breeze. The Yankees offense finally ignited and Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer. It's great to have Judge back from the injured list. The Yankees won 8-3 and we walked to the Hyatt Regency (where the others were staying) for a nightcap. We talked about getting together next year for another couple games, maybe in Boston or Toronto. We said our goodbyes and departed Baltimore the next day.

It was a truly, wonderful weekend and we all had a great time. Ken and Shelly look forward to getting together with everyone again in 2024.
